Mama Says Namaste Podcast

Welcome to the Mama Says Namaste podcast. I’m Ashley Logsdon, joined by awesome husband Nathan as my cohost and partner in life.  As we RV the States full time and unschool our girls, we invite you not to only hear our story, but create your own.

We’ll take you from chaos to clarity by understanding personality styles, bringing awareness and intention into your home, not waiting for “one day”, and highlighting how the uniqueness in each of us strengthens all of us.

Each week we deliver a podcast that is under an hour (typically 25 min), diving deep into the topics that we believe help create an "intentional family".

In this episode we discuss Marie Kondo’s book - and what is missing.  It’s not just about your happiness, clearing the clutter, and fixing what’s in front of you.  Join Nathan and Ashley and hear their perspective on minimalism - taking into account the ones you love, what “home” means, and how to get to the root of the issue.  Does this really bring fulfillment in any way?

Welcome to Season Three on the Mama Says Namaste Podcast.  In this series, we will focus on how to clear the clutter not just from your home, but also your head and your heart to create that space for clarity and connection.

Join me and dive in to "The Minimalist To-Do List!"

Home isn’t something you’re running from.  It’s something you’re running towards.

What is minimalism?  The minimalists have great definitions on it: http://www.theminimalists.com/

The Minimalist Definition

Marie Kondo’s book, “The Life Changing Magic of Tidying Up”(http://amzn.to/2wtlM8n) - top question: Does this spark joy?

This article: “Does It Spark Joy?” Is The Wrong Decluttering Question is an excellent challenge to Kondo’s book.

https://www.becomingminimalist.com/does-it-spark-joy-is-the-wrong-decluttering-question

In the article, Becker lays out three critical points:

  1. Its’ not just about what makes YOU happy - take into account others as well.  How can you spread love and joy - share that spark with others?

Nathan used the analogy of the trolls in the movie Frozen to personify and give life to the rocks on the beach - snatching them all up and taking them away from their family.  May be fun for the girls, but it isn’t just about their joy.

The only possessions we really have in this world are our actions.

Don’t force your kids to eliminate, but paint a picture of perspective.  We can’t take every rock with us - in the scope of life, it doesn’t really matter.  They belong there on the beach of Lake Superior.

2. It’s not just about owning less.  It’s about wanting less and acquiring less as well.

3. What’s the meaning behind it all?  What’s the purpose?  What is your “why” for holding on to something, or wanting more?

So when you’re holding one of your possessions in your hands, ask yourself, Does it help me fulfill my purpose? Does it help me craft a lifestyle in which I am able to build relationships and care for others, or might I be able to use my time, money, and energy in better ways?

What does this bring in to our life?  What does this change/make better?  Can you live without it?

Can you feed into someone else’s life instead?
